Heat caution — Mahogany runs HOT in full sun

TimberTech AZEK technical data

Dark colors (Mahogany, hex #5A2820) measure 145-160°F at the surface in 90°F sun. PVC reflects more heat than capped composite — even AZEK Vintage in dark colors stays cooler than equivalent Trex Transcend.

How to use

Three steps. Permit-ready output.

  1. 01

    Pick a TimberTech line

AZEK Vintage (flagship PVC, 50-yr warranty), AZEK Harvest (mid PVC), AZEK Landmark (hardwood-look PVC), PRO Reserve (premium capped composite), PRO Legacy (mid capped composite), EDGE Prime+ (value composite, Lowe's-stocked alternative to Trex Enhance).

  2. 02

    Choose a color

Up to 6 colors per line. PVC colors run noticeably cooler than capped composite at the same tone — even AZEK Vintage Mahogany stays comfortable in full sun. Heat-rating icons (Flame/Snowflake) show the surface-temp expectation.

  3. 03

    Enter dimensions

Length × width in feet. Pattern matters: parallel (7% waste, 1.0× labor), picture-frame (12%, 1.18×), diagonal (15%, 1.12×). The calculator quantizes board count using TimberTech's stocked lengths (12, 16, 20 ft).

  4. 04

    Pick fastener system

CONCEALoc (TimberTech's hidden clip system) is the default — 90 clips/box, $85/box, 50 sqft coverage. Cortex (color-matched plug system, 50/pack, $38/pack) is the face-screw alternative.

  5. 05

    Add accessories

AZEK Drink Rail (top-mount decking face on railing — premium upgrade, $45/lf installed). TimberTech Lighting (post + riser LEDs + 100W transformer + low-voltage wiring).

  6. 06

    Read your TimberTech BoM

Material guide

Wood, composite, or PVC?

Three honest paths. Composite wins the 25-year math for most homeowners, wood wins on upfront cost, and PVC is unbeatable around water. Each card below answers in one glance — recalculate the bill of materials by clicking a brand in the picker above.

Pressure-treated wood

Best for · DIY budget builds
Upfront
$1.85 – $4.10/lf
Lifespan
10 – 15 years
Pros
  • Lowest upfront cost ($15–25/sq ft installed)
  • Universally available — Home Depot, Lowe's, lumberyards
  • Workable with standard fasteners and tools
Cons
  • Annual stain/seal needed (~$0.45/sq ft/yr)
  • Splinters, splits, and warps over time
  • Higher 25-year ownership cost than composite
Try in calculator: PT 2×6 or 5/4×6 deck boards

Composite

Best for · Most homeowners
Upfront
$3.20 – $6.40/lf
Lifespan
25 – 30 years (warranty)
Pros
  • Wash-only maintenance ($0.05/sq ft/yr)
  • Capped polymer surface resists stains, mold, fade
  • Lowest 25-year total cost for most builds
Cons
  • Higher upfront ($28–40/sq ft installed)
  • Hidden-fastener systems take 25% longer to install
  • Can run warm in direct sun (lighter colors mitigate)
Try in calculator: Trex Enhance · TimberTech Prime+ · Fiberon Good Life

PVC (capped polymer)

Best for · Pool & coastal decks
Upfront
$4.65 – $7.20/lf
Lifespan
30+ years (lifetime warranty)
Pros
  • Zero rot, zero mold — fully synthetic core
  • Coolest underfoot of the synthetics (mineral-core lines)
  • Best moisture and salt-spray performance
Cons
  • Highest upfront cost
  • Can move slightly more with temperature swings
  • Color palette narrower than composite

How we calculate

The math, fully transparent.

The TimberTech Deck Calculator is the brand-deep estimator for the homeowner who has decided on TimberTech (an AZEK Building Products brand) and wants a real bill of materials with TimberTech part numbers, the right CONCEALoc clip box count, optional AZEK Drink Rail under-mount, optional TimberTech Lighting, and a side-by-side comparison across all 6 TimberTech lines — AZEK Vintage / Harvest / Landmark (PVC) plus PRO Reserve / Legacy (capped composite) plus EDGE Prime+ (value composite). The big differentiator vs Trex: TimberTech AZEK PVC carries a 50-year structural warranty (the longest in residential decking) and runs noticeably cooler in dark colors. Pricing reflects 2026-Q1 retail from Lowe's Pro + TimberTech AZEK Pro dealer channel.

Per-LF retail prices reflect 2026-Q1 TimberTech pricing at Lowe's Pro + TimberTech AZEK Pro dealer channel. CONCEALoc + Cortex specs from TimberTech install manuals. AZEK Vintage 50-yr warranty per AZEK Building Products published terms.

Deck-board linear feet
rows × length × (1 + waste%)

Rows = ceil(width × 12 ÷ (5.5 + 0.125)) — TimberTech face is 5.5″ with 1/8″ install gap. Waste % is pattern-driven.

CONCEALoc box count
boxes = floor(total_clips ÷ 90)

Each CONCEALoc box has 90 clips, covers ~50 sqft at 16″ joist o.c. Total clips = boards × (length × 12 ÷ 16 + 1). Loose remainder priced at $1.15/clip.

Cortex pack count
packs = ceil(area ÷ 50)

Each Cortex pack has 50 color-matched plugs, covers ~50 sqft. Used when fastener=cortex-plug.

TimberTech Lighting kit count
post = ceil(perim ÷ 6) + 1; riser = stairs

Premier/Reserve/Builder rail posts go every 6 ft. One post light per post, plus end caps. One riser light per stair tread.

Composite labor premium
$35/sqft × 1.25 × pattern × shape × region

TimberTech installs are 25% slower than face-screwed PT. Pattern + shape multipliers compound. Region uses RSMeans 2026-Q1.
