Buy Enhance Basics if you want the cheapest way into capped composite, Enhance Naturals if you want wood-grain looks on a value budget, Select if you want a solid (non-scalloped) board without flagship pricing, and Transcend if you want the full 14-color palette or a dark board that stays usable in full sun (the Lineage collection's heat-mitigation cap). The warranty is identical up and down the ladder.

Prices are 2026-Q1 retail averages (Home Depot, Lowe's, Trex Pro Platinum channel). Per-square-foot figures assume a 5.5″ board face with a 1/8″ install gap — about 2.13 linear feet per square foot, the same conversion the Trex deck calculator uses.

The most surprising fact in the Trex lineup is that the warranty doesn't improve as you spend more: all four lines carry 25-year structural + 25-year fade & stain coverage. What changes is the board itself.

Scalloped vs solid profile

Both Enhance lines are scalloped — the underside has grooves scooped out, which makes the boards lighter to carry and cheaper to make. Select and Transcend are solid, square-edged boards. On the walking surface you can't see the difference; you notice it at cut ends (a scalloped end wants a fascia or end-cap detail) and in stiffness underfoot between joists. Color depth and palette size

• Enhance Naturals (5 colors): Beach Dune, Toasted Sand, Foggy Wharf, Coastal Bluff, Rocky Harbor — wood-grain look with light streaking, a beachy palette.
• Select (5 colors): Madeira, Pebble Grey, Saddle, Winchester Grey, Woodland Brown — a focused core palette.
• Transcend (14 colors, 3 collections): Tropicals (6 hardwood looks like Spiced Rum and Tiki Torch), Earth Tones (4 grays and neutrals), and Lineage (4 colors with Trex's newest heat-mitigation cap).

Heat: the one functional upgrade

Dark composite gets hot in direct sun — Trex's own color cards flag colors like Lava Rock as hot underfoot. The only Trex boards with dedicated heat-mitigation tech are the four Transcend Lineage colors (Rainier, Carmel, Biscayne, Jasper). If you want a dark deck in a full-sun yard, that's the strongest single argument for paying Transcend money. In shade, or with light colors like Toasted Sand or Foggy Wharf, the cheaper lines run comparably cool.

Using the Trex calculator's national defaults, a 16×20 Enhance Basics deck with railing and 4 stairs lands around $17,500 installed; the same deck in Transcend (Tropicals color) lands around $24,000; and a Transcend Lineage build with Signature aluminum railing and a picture-frame pattern runs $32,000+. Materials are typically 35-45% of installed cost — labor is the rest, and it doesn't care which line you picked.

• Tightest budget, stepping up from pressure-treated: Enhance Basics. At ≈$7.05/sq ft in boards it's the cheapest current Trex, and it carries the same 25-year warranty as Transcend.
• Best value-for-looks: Enhance Naturals. The +$450 over Basics on a 16×20 buys wood-grain texture and a 5-color palette — the biggest visual jump per dollar on the ladder.
• Want a solid board, not chasing the flagship: Select. It's the cheapest non-scalloped Trex, with a square edge that finishes cleanly at stairs and borders.
• Dark colors in full sun: Transcend Lineage. The heat-mitigation cap is exclusive to these 4 colors — no cheaper Trex line offers it.
• Resale or a design-driven build: Transcend. The 14-color palette (including the Tropicals hardwood looks) is the reason it's the line contractors show first.
