On a 16x20 deck the band runs from about $17,600 to $38,400, which puts AZEK in the same budget conversation as a small kitchen rather than a deck.
The lines differ by colour treatment and grain, not by material or warranty — every AZEK board is the same PVC with the same 50-year fade and lifetime structural coverage. Vintage is the flagship with the deepest colours including Mahogany and Coastline that no composite brand matches. Arbor is the hardwood-look line. Harvest is the luxury tier. PVC solves three specific problems — and if you do not have them, it is a preference
AZEK is worth its premium in conditions that actually stress a deck. Within a few miles of saltwater, PVC gives salt air nothing to work on, where a wood-fibre core relies entirely on its cap. Around a pool or in a wet climate, PVC absorbs no water at all. In strong sun with dark colours, it runs meaningfully cooler than any capped composite, including heat-mitigated ones. Add a 50-year structural warranty for a deck you intend to keep, and the case is straightforward.
Outside those conditions the case is weaker and worth stating plainly: on a shaded suburban deck in a temperate climate, an $88 per square foot PVC board and a $58 premium composite will both look good and last past the point most owners sell the house. The composite will feel a little more like wood; the PVC will look newer at year twenty.
One practical note that catches installers new to PVC: it expands and contracts more along its length than composite does even with a low coefficient of thermal expansion, so gapping to the manufacturer's spec for the temperature on the day of install matters more here than on any other board. Get that wrong in cold weather and the deck buckles in July.

Does AZEK PVC decking scratch or fade?
It resists both better than most composites, but neither claim is absolute and the warranty tells you what the manufacturer will actually stand behind. AZEK carries a 50-year fade-and-stain warranty, among the longest in the industry, and the cap is engineered for scratch resistance rather than merely finished for it. In practice that means patio furniture dragged across the surface and dog claws leave less behind than they would on an entry-tier capped composite. What still marks PVC is heat: a dropped charcoal or a fire-pit ember will melt the surface where a wood board would only scorch, and that is not a warranty claim. Use a fire-pit mat, and pick up any grill that sits directly on the boards. The other habit worth keeping is washing twice a year, since a fade warranty covers pigment failure and not the grey film that accumulates on any deck.
How long does an AZEK deck last?
Around 35 years in service, the longest expected life of any brand on this site, backed by a 50-year fade warranty and a lifetime structural warranty. The reason is the material rather than the manufacturing: with no wood fibre in the board there is nothing for moisture, mould or termites to consume, so the failure modes that eventually retire a composite deck do not apply. What still ages an AZEK deck is everything underneath it. The framing is usually pressure-treated lumber with a 15 to 25-year service life in ground-contact conditions, the fasteners corrode if they are not the right grade, and the ledger connection is what actually fails on decks of any material. Spending premium money on the boards while framing to the minimum is the most common mistake at this price point — the surface will outlive the structure carrying it.
What is the difference between AZEK and TimberTech?
AZEK is a product line within TimberTech, and both are the AZEK Company — but the names carry a real distinction. TimberTech-branded lines, meaning Edge Prime+ and Pro Legacy, are capped wood-fibre composites at $42 to $58 per square foot installed. AZEK-branded lines, meaning Vintage, Harvest and Arbor, are 100% cellular PVC at $55 to $120. So a TimberTech quote may or may not be a PVC deck depending on which line it specifies, and the price gap between the two is large enough that quotes are not comparable until you know. The warranties differ accordingly: 30 years fade on the composite lines against 50 years on the PVC, with lifetime structural on both. If a contractor quotes 'TimberTech AZEK', that is the PVC side; if the quote just says TimberTech, ask which line.
